The Co-Creators of Sign-A-Lot
Barbara Granoff holds a Bachelors Degree in Special Education and has taught hearing impaired children in the U.S. and overseas. She also holds a Masters Degree in Social Work and has taught at the University and Community College levels, as well as lectured nationally. Upon experiencing the joys and benefits of having a signing child, Barbara founded, "ABC me Sign", a program that helps hearing infants, toddlers and children in early education enhance their communication skills through the use of American Sign Language. Over the past few years, Barbara has brought the concept of signing with hearing children to countless communities. Barbara believes that the Sign-A-Lot DVD series will enable more parents to experience the profound benefits that American Sign Language can offer hearing children. Barbara is Adjunct Faculty for the Department of Early Childhood Education at Orange Coast College, where she teaches "Signing for Young Children," and in April of 2005, Barbara was awarded the 2005 Women of Vision Recognition Award.
Lee Sher received a B.A. in Communications with a special focus on Theatre Education and American Sign Language from Austin College. She has performed with and for countless children throughout her career in children’s theatre, delighting kids of all ages. Along with performing for children, Lee has been a theatre educator for more than fifteen years, incorporating sign language into creative play curriculum and directing children’s productions on such prominent stages as the Los Angeles Theatre Center and The Lorraine Hansberry Theatre. She has worked with children of all types, including special needs kids, gifted children, deaf children, and for the past eight years has taught almost exclusively with inner-city children—most recently as the Program Director for the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre Youth Academy which serves the Bayview/Hunter's Point area in San Francisco. Profoundly struck by the extraordinary benefits children receive from sign language, Lee hopes that Sign-A-Lot will make these benefits more accessible to children in a creative, fun, and lasting way. Lee has lectured nationally on the benefits of signing with hearing children and is the mother of a signing baby.
